Johor Calendar of Events
January - April
Johor celebrates the new year just like any other states in Malaysia. It is celebrated annually on the 1st day of January, which marks the first day of the year in the Gregorian calendar.
Chinese New Year is the biggest and the most important festival for the Chinese communities in Malaysia. The event is to celebrate the first day of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Each year symbolizes one of the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac.
May - August
Johor Bahru Classical Music Festival is organised annually by The Johor Society for the Performing Arts (J.S.P.A.). It is held in order to let the Johorean experience classical music that transcends generations, soundscapes and cultures.
The Bon Odori festival is a traditional Japanese festival, where the dead and the living connect with each other. It is also celebrated all over Malaysia including Johor as an effort to expose Malaysians to Japanese culture.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri or also known as Raya Puasa is the biggest Muslim celebration in Malaysia. It is celebrated on the first day of Syawal that marks the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is the month in the Islamic calendar when the Muslims has to fast during the day for the whole month.
September - December
Festival Tari Rakyat Johor is a traditional dance competition. It is held yearly by Yayasan Warisan Johor. The traditional dance performers throughout the State of Johor assemble and perform in order to showcase their talents.
Deepavali or also known as the Festival of Light is celebrated by the Hindu devotees in Malaysia. It is celebrated to commemorate Lord Rama and his wife Sita’s return to Ayodhya after 14-years of exile. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.
Iskarnival is an event featuring two special events, Iskarnival Kool and Iskarnival Aktif. Iskarnival Kool promotes various creative activities and Iskarnival Aktif promotes various sports and fitness related activities.
